Alan West
Alan’s credo is that well-written software ought to simply work—without creating more work for the user. “I really enjoy thinking about how technology can help someone accomplish a task in the most seamless way possible,” he says. “I try to push myself to get as close to that ideal as I can.”
Since joining Sitka in October 2011, Alan has contributed to geospatial mapping applications for the Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) Environment, Fish & Wildlife Program. His work is helping enable BPA managers to more cleanly organize and view scientific data in relation to specific geographic areas. Alan’s previous experience includes developing e-commerce, business intelligence, and workforce management software at various companies.
Alan earned a bachelor of science degree in cognitive science and a master’s in computer science from Portland State University. His personal interests include playing board games and remodeling the Northeast Portland house that he and his wife share.
