The Summit is designed for city planners, citizen planners, community activists, design professionals, conservationists, academics, elected officials, and all those who are committed to addressing the unique opportunities faced by mountain communities. Experts in land use and transportation, housing, economic development, sustainability, resilience, and leadership in are expected to attend this year's conference in Lake Tahoe. The program format includes panel discussions, facilitated roundtable discussions, and keynote talks from industry and academic experts.
The Puget Sound Partnership (PSP) and their partners recently announced the launch of Puget Sound Info, an online platform for sharing information and stories about Puget Sound recovery priorities, activities, investments, near-term results, and progress toward recovery goals for the region. This is the completion of the first phase of a multi-phased roll out Sitka has been working on with PSP.
On April 23rd, Matt and I drove up to Olympia to help the Puget Sound Partnership (PSP) conduct a partner training for the two key areas of their new Puget Sound Info platform. PSP works with over 750 partners – including government agencies, tribes, scientists, businesses, and non-profits – that contribute to the Puget Sound recovery effort. This training was an opportunity to share the new application with users and give partners the tools they need to update their data in the system prior to the public launch later this summer.
While this year’s Salmon Recovery Conference’s theme was Facing the Future Together, the conference spent significant time reflecting on both past successes and trials experienced since the state passage of the Salmon Recovery Act in 1999. Former Washington State Governor Gary Locke (1997-2005) kicked off this spirit of reflection with his keynote, “Salmon Recovery: Twenty Years in the Making.”
